"The DH has gone mad for apples cake and has given me a heap of recipes from all over the place so posting here and will slowly make my way through them and he can pick the one he likes the best."

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Sift flour and sugar.
Step 2
Quickly break the butter into the dry mixture until it resembles crumbs.
Step 3
Add egg and gently mix through with a fork until it resembles crumbs.
Step 4
Press just under half the mixture into a greased and lined 20cm round tin.
Step 5
Top with apple.
Step 6
Sprinkle over remaining crumbs.
Step 7
Bake at 180C for 40 minutes and then cool on wire rack.
Step 8
Dust with icing sugar and a dollop of thickened cream to serve.
Step 9
NOTE - you can use other tinned fruit not just apple.
