Step 1: Sift flour and sugar.
Step 2: Quickly break the butter into the dry mixture until it resembles crumbs.
Step 3: Add egg and gently mix through with a fork until it resembles crumbs.
Step 4: Press just under half the mixture into a greased and lined 20cm round tin.
Step 5: Top with apple.
Step 6: Sprinkle over remaining crumbs.
Step 7: Bake at 180C for 40 minutes and then cool on wire rack.
Step 8: Dust with icing sugar and a dollop of thickened cream to serve.
Step 9: NOTE - you can use other tinned fruit not just apple.
