  • When selecting canned tomatoes, look for fire roasted garlic diced tomatoes and petite diced tomatoes for the best flavor.
  • If you want more heat, add an additional serrano pepper to the recipe.

  • Substitute the canned diced tomatoes with fresh diced tomatoes - this will provide a fresher flavor and more vibrant color to the salsa.
  • Substitute the jalapeno and serrano peppers with bell peppers - this will reduce the heat of the salsa, making it more suitable for those with sensitive palates.

Mild Salsa Omit the jalapeno and serrano peppers. Replace with 1/4 cup of diced bell peppers.

Mango Salsa Omit the jalapeno and serrano peppers. Replace with 1/4 cup of diced mango and 1/4 cup of diced bell peppers. Add 1 tablespoon of honey, 1/4 teaspoon of ground cumin, and 1 tablespoon of freshly squeezed lime juice.

: Grilled Corn with Lime and Cotija Cheese:

This is a great dish to serve with Won't You Be My Neighbor Homemade Salsa. The sweetness of the grilled corn goes perfectly with the spicy salsa, and the lime and Cotija cheese add a zesty flavor to the dish. It's a great way to balance out the flavors and add an extra layer of flavor to your meal.

Grilled Avocado with Tomato Salsa: Grilled avocado slices are a great way to add a creamy texture and flavor to your meal. When topped with a tomato salsa, the combination of flavors is simply delicious. The avocado adds a rich, creamy texture to the salsa, while the tomatoes give it a fresh, acidic flavor. This combination is the perfect accompaniment to the grilled corn and will help to bring out the flavors of the salsa even more.

Homemade salsa is so much better than store bough and you can control how much salt goes in too, which is great. It was easy to prepare and after letting it sit in the fridge for about 4 hours the flavors melded and it was delicious on our beef enchiladas. It's now a staple on the door of my fridge just waiting to be grabbed for our favorite Mexican snacks and meals!
