"This recipe was posted on site that is no longer online.The woman,VickyJ who this recipe belonged to is,sadly no longer with us(she passed away in 2012). I think this is a very good basic recipe for pasta sauce.And I'm sure she wouldn't mind if you wanted to play around with it.Like with a lot of sauces,let simmer for at least 20 minutes after the initial 25 minutes. Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a large skillet over medium heat add ground beef,onion,and red pepper.

Step 2

Then stir in salt,1 teaspoon each of the following,garlic powder,Italian seasoning,and oregano

Step 3

Cook until meat is browned and vegetables are softened.

Step 4

If needed drain meat and return to skillet.

Step 5

Add tomato sauce,paste,chopped tomato,and remaining seasonings stirring well and also stirring occasionally.

Step 6

Reduce to low and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes.

I followed the directions and found the sauce to be too sweet for us. Wish I hadn't added the peppers either but wanted to make it as posted the first time around. I will look further for another more suitable recipe for us.

Great sauce. Thick, like we like it. I subbed mushrooms for the red pepper (don't like it in spaghetti), and left out the sugar, but otherwise made as written. Will be making this again.
