"Great side anytime, we love them when we are camping out, have even done them over an open fire in a cast iron frypan, a little ash never hurt, just added a camp flavour. Easy and every one loves them."

Based on the other reviews, I can only assume I did something wrong. These were nothing like scalloped potatoes, and in fact by the time I'd simmered them for 20 minutes almost all the milk was gone. What little was left cooked off when I uncovered the pan leaving the potatoes dry (I only cooked long enough to melt the cheese rather than going the full cooking time listed there as well). They also burned to the bottom of the pan, so I lost about 1/4 inch off each one and it was nearly impossible to clean the pan. What I could salvage was tender and tasty, but it was more like eating fried potatoes covered in cheese with a sprinkling of cayenne than anything remotely resembling scalloped potatoes with sauce. It was a neat idea, and it gets two stars rather than one since they were tasty, but I won't bother making them again.

LOVED IT! Whether in the crock pot or on the stove, these potatoes always turn out perfect. I like to use Ritz crackers for the crumbs, and I add some butter in the first step.

I made this recipe on 8/4/13.Since it was just my SO and myself, the recipe was cut in half. And since I used leftover baked potatoes,it made the prep time much faster.Since I was using leftover potatoes,I cooked the onion in about 2 tablespoon of margarine. Then I proceeded with the rest of the recipe as it was written. After it was cooked and to make it a bit fancier,I placed the potatoes in a serving dish. Then topped with a bit more cheese and some paprika. Both my SO and I thought that this deserved a " GOOD SOLID 4 *'s ". Thanks for posting a recipe that will certainly be made again. " Keep Smiling : )"

I started these off on the stove-top then finished them off in a 375 degree oven as I had to many things on the go. These turned out so tasty!!! I served these as a side to Kit's apricot ham recipe and they went quite well together. Made for the Billboard Recipe Tag Game.
