Editorial Notes

The ingredient tips, suggestions, variations, facts, questions and answers below are not edits to the original author's recipe. They are not meant to imply any change would improve the recipe. They're offered for convenience, alternative ideas, and points of interest. If you have any comments about them, please post in the Help & Ideas forum.

  • Choose fresh shrimp that are firm and have a bright, almost translucent color.
  • For the stir-fry sauce, you can use a store-bought honey and soy stir-fry sauce or make your own.

  • Substitute the hokkien noodles with soba noodles - The benefit of this substitution is that soba noodles are made with buckwheat, which is a healthier alternative to regular wheat noodles. This substitution adds a nuttier flavor to the dish and is a great way to add more nutrients to the dish.
  • Substitute the red onion with shallots - The benefit of this substitution is that shallots have a milder, sweeter flavor than red onions. This substitution adds more depth and flavor to the dish without overpowering the other ingredients.

Vegetarian Variation Replace the prawns with 1 kilogram of firm tofu, cut into cubes. Follow the same instructions as the original recipe.

Coconut Rice: This fragrant and fluffy coconut rice is the perfect accompaniment to the Speedy Honey & Soy Prawn Stir-Fry. It adds a subtle sweetness to the dish and helps to balance out the savoury flavours.

Spicy Sesame Broccoli: This spicy sesame broccoli is the perfect side dish to pair with the Coconut Rice. It adds a nice crunch and a spicy kick to the meal, and the toasted sesame seeds add a nutty flavor that complements the coconut rice perfectly.
