Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350F.
Step 2
Cream shortening and sugars until light.
Step 3
Add egg and vanilla.
Step 4
Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture.
Step 5
Mix hot water and baking soda and add to mixing bowl.
Step 6
Roll into 2 logs, and wrap it up in Saran wrap, freeze for 2 hours.
Step 7
Slice thinly and bake.
Step 8
Bake for 10 minutes until lightly browned, (watch, no time and/or temperature given; very old recipe).
Step 9
These make a good crisp cookie.
