"This is an old recipe my grandmother used to make. No one knows where the recipe came from. I used to find it strange to watch her cook it in empty cans. They looked really nice when done and sliced up."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Blend together flour, baking soda and salt.

Step 2

Blend in whole wheat flour and raisins.

Step 3

Make a well in centre of dry ingredients.

Step 4

Add milk and molasses.

Step 5

Divide batter among 4 greased 20oz cans.

Step 6

Cover each with aluminum foil and tie in place.

Step 7

Steam for 1 hour.

Step 8

Serve warm or cold.

I followed this exactly and the bread came out so good. They actually came out of the cans quite easily. I was impressed with how it came out! I served it with homemade beans and relish and it was deliciousness in every bite!
