  • Use El Pato tomato sauce for the best flavor, as this is a Mexican hot sauce.
  • Adjust the amount of cilantro and onion to taste, depending on how spicy you prefer your salsa.

  • Substitute 1 can (8 ounce) diced tomatoes for the tomato sauce for a chunkier salsa. The benefit of this substitution is that it adds texture and a more complex flavor to the salsa.
  • Substitute 1 jalapeno pepper for the cilantro and onion for a spicier salsa. The benefit of this substitution is that it adds more heat to the salsa, making it more flavorful.

Mild Salsa Reduce the amount of tomato sauce and replace with a milder tomato sauce. Omit the cilantro and onion, and add 1/4 cup diced bell peppers and 1/4 cup diced jalapenos.

Winner, winner! Wow, this was incredibly easy and a great way to make your own authentic tasting salsa. I'm so glad you posted this recipe (and that I found it). The spiciness was the perfect level for us. My husband doesn't like cilantro so next time I'll make two batches; one with cilantro and one without. This is so good!

The title says it all: Quick Hot Salsa! It came together in a jiffy, is REALLY SPICY and goes perfectly with tortilla chips! The onion and cilantro were the perfect additions. This tastes great AND packs a punch... it's seriously hot. The kids (we warned them about the heat level) dipped the corners of their chips into the salsa and enjoyed this in moderation. This would be a GREAT taco sauce!
