Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 450F. Coat a large nonstick baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray; set aside.

Step 2

Combine bread crumbs, cornmeal, chili powder, red pepper and salt in a medium shallow dish; mix well. Stir in butter and water.

Step 3

Separate onion slices into rings.

Step 4

Place egg whites in a large bowl and beat lightly. Add onion rings and toss lightly to coat evenly.

Step 5

Transfer to bread crumb mixture; toss to coat evenly.

Step 6

Place in single layer on baking sheet. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until onions are tender and coating is crisp.

This is a great recipe - the onion rings came out crisp, cunchy, and loaded with flavour. I didn't used any butter or water Just panko crumbs cornmeal and chili flakes. They were perfect. Thanks Mike for a keeper

These where the perfect side to my Tex-Mex burgers. The coating was crunchy and had great flavor. I served them with a salsa and sour cream sauce and they were excellent!
