Mom's Oatmeal Cake
"So moist and yummy Has an old fashioned goodness. Mom broiled icing on same shelf in which she baked cake. My sister requested this and 2 others at different times for her birthday cake. Mom made for many occasions. I often gave out this recipe to others. Mom used 2/3 cup nuts and coconut original recipe called for 1/2 cup each. Sometimes mom used milk instead of cream in frosting."

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Pour Boiling water over Oatmeal, Stir and Let stand
Step 2
Cream sugars, shortening, eggs, vanilla, baking soda, cinnamon and salt
Step 3
Add oatmeal and flour to creamed mixture. Bake 30 minutes
Step 4
While hot pour on icing topping - To Make ICING
Step 5
Melt 2/3 cup brown sugar and 6 Tablespoons Butter 1/4 cup cream
Step 6
Add Nuts, Coconut - Cool to thicken a little
Step 7
Spread on cake and brown under- broiler. Mom broiled on same shelf she baked cake
