Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup quick oatmeal
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaaspoon salt
  • 1 1/3 cup flour
  • Icing:
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons Butter
  • 1/4 cup cream
  • 1/2 to 2/3 cup nuts
  • 1/2 to 2/3 cup coconut

How to Make

  • Step 1: Pour Boiling water over Oatmeal, Stir and Let stand

  • Step 2: Cream sugars, shortening, eggs, vanilla, baking soda, cinnamon and salt

  • Step 3: Add oatmeal and flour to creamed mixture. Bake 30 minutes

  • Step 4: While hot pour on icing topping - To Make ICING

  • Step 5: Melt 2/3 cup brown sugar and 6 Tablespoons Butter 1/4 cup cream

  • Step 6: Add Nuts, Coconut - Cool to thicken a little

  • Step 7: Spread on cake and brown under- broiler. Mom broiled on same shelf she baked cake
