"My mom made meatloaf this way. You will have enough for sandwiches next day. This is one of those dishes where it's a squirt of this and a shake of that, so you may need more ketchup or more mustard to your taste. Be careful of the mustard; it's strong."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Saute chopped onion in butter until translucent.( i have just added raw onions and skipped this step

Step 2

In another bowl, mix the rest of the ingredients (some people wet the bread with water or milk, and then mush it in). Add onions.

There is way too much beef for the other ingredient amounts. I used 1 small onion, left out the added butter, and then followed the recipe with 1 pound of beef. It fed 3 people. It tasted good made with the changes.

I made this recipe on 9/16 for the " Family Picks portion of the " Culinary Quest 2014 ". Except for cutting in half and leaving the onions raw, this was made as written. Instead of adding the ketchup to the top before baking,it was baked for about 30 minutes. Then drained and the ketchup was added at this time. For an easier to slice meatloaf,I let rest for about 10 minutes. As for the taste,we felt it was missing a " little something ". So if I make this again, I'll add a small amount of garlic powder. Made for Team " Cruisin' Culinary Queens " " Keep Smiling :) "

Hi Dee! This is a very good, basic meatloaf recipe. I halved it because it was just 2 of us last night. The sauteed onions are a nice touch. Made for Cruisin' Culinary Queens of the Culinary Quest 2014. :) xo Bethie/elmotoo

Real down home goodness. For me I think the 4 lbs of meat is a little much in relation to the other ingredients. I used a pound of grass fed ground beef and half of the other ingredients. The meatloaf sliced well and was very tasty.
