Step by Step Method

Step 1

Remove the casings from the sausage and place in a Dutch oven or heavy bottomed pot along with the onions; cook until meat is no longer pink.

Step 2

Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

Step 3

Reduce heat, cover and simmer for a couple of hours.

Step 4

Remove bay leaf and ladle into bowls.

Step 5

This soup was so wonderful I wish I had more than 5 stars to award. I used ground turkey seasoned with Penzey's italian sausage seasoning and 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds, Rotel tomatoes, and cooked in a crockpot. The house smelled wonderful so we were really looking forward to trying the soup. We weren't disappointed. The soup is hearty, full of good chunky goodness, and swoon worthy if you like veggies and sausage. Loved the turnips! Yum! I know this will be made often this year. Thank you for sharing the recipe!
