Step 1: Remove the casings from the sausage and place in a Dutch oven or heavy bottomed pot along with the onions; cook until meat is no longer pink.
Step 2: Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
Step 3: Reduce heat, cover and simmer for a couple of hours.
Step 4: Remove bay leaf and ladle into bowls.
Step 5: Enjoy!
