"Needs chilling. It is never stirred until the second day. The name of the recipe comes from the cafes' that were in the U.S. National Park Inn's during the 50's. The Slaw was placed on the table to serve yourself - much in the same way cheese spread is today."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

In large bowl, place layer of cabbage, green pepper, and onion. Keep repeating until all vegetables are used.

Step 2

Pour sugar over layers.

Step 3

Combine dressing ingredients in saucepan.

Step 4

Cook until full boil and pour immediately over slaw.

Step 5

Refrigerate at least 4 hours.

Step 6

Toss before serving.

Step 7

Season to taste.

The hubby took one bite and said..."this is really good"...I cut the recipe in half and let it sit overnight...I used a mixture of red and green peppers...it has a sweet tangy taste...served it with your "Classic German Meatballs Frikadellen" and a side of noodles with my "Bacon and Beef Gravy"...what a great meal...made for "Billboard" tag game...thanks for sharing your recipe...

Very good coleslaw and so much better than the usual mayo version. Mine had a bit too much liquid but was able to drain the excess liquid out. Thanks for sharing!
