"These are so much fun, easy to make; and, even can be done in the oven if you can't grill. I prefer to use apples; but, I have made these with pears, peaches, and plums as well. Serve one (1) 'package' per person, right in the foil, and top with vanilla ice cream or whipped topping."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Foil Package ... Use heavy duty foil, or a double thickness. Add the foil to a small dish, so as you add the fruit and toppings, the liquid will not spill out. Then, add the fruit to the center of the package, and try to stand or line up the slices - they tend to hold their shape and cook more evenly that way.

Step 2

Topping ... Add the butter over the fruit, sprinkle with sugar and nutmeg; and finish with the rum and nuts. If you want, which I always do ... add some raisins or dried cranberries.

Step 3

Package and Grill ... Fold up the package like a present, and make sure to twist the ends well. Grill on medium heat or bake in a 350 degree oven, middle shelf for 20-30 minutes until the apples are tender.

Step 4

Serve ... Open the foil package and serve. I think It is fun to serve right in the foil. Just top with ice cream or whipped cream and ENJOY!

This was super easy to grill. I didn't put the raisins and cranberries on it due to being in a hurry. It was good without them; I'm sure it will be even better with them. I also used maple syrup instead of alcohol and my husband and me both liked it. We plan on eating this again on the grill. It's so easy.

Made as per recipe leaving the skin on the apple and for the dried fruit I used sultanas and walnuts for the nut ingredient and baked in the oven for 20 minutes and served with a dollop of cream for a quick and tasty dessert. Made for Pick Me tag game under the 48 hour rule.
