Recipe: #7793
October 23, 2011
"A refreshing variation of cucumbers and sour cream from a slightly yellowed newspaper clipping. The addition of onion, vinegar and a touch of sugar separates this from the crowd."

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Peel and slice the cucumbers and onions.
Step 2
Sprinkle with salt, toss, and refrigerate 1-2 hours.
Step 3
Drain thoroughly and press out any extra liquid.
Step 4
Combine sour cream, vinegar, and sugar and toss with the cucumbers. Add additional seasoning to taste.
Step 5
This is a vintage recipe, and it is just as seat-of-your-pants as it sounds. The basic ingredients were all old-timers ever passed on when they shared a recipe, perhaps to keep their special touch a secret. You can certainly add additional vinegar or sour cream if it pleases you. Add pepper or Cajun spice. Increase or decrease the onion. Stir in some crushed, minced garlic (as Gerry mentions in her review below). Just be sure to drain those cucumbers well, so your flavors aren't diluted.
