Step 1

Preheat oven to 400°F degrees. Lay short ribs on a rack in a roaster; sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Roast for 20 minutes until well browned and fat has drained into the pan.

Step 2

In the meantime, peel and cut onions in half. Veggie spray the bowl of the crock pot, place the onions cut side down on the bottom of the crock pot. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Pour the beef broth over and spread half of the tomato sauce on top of the onions. Remove short ribs from oven; cut each strip in half and lay on top of the onion/tomato in crock pot. Sprinkle the smashed garlic over and spread the remaining tomato sauce over the ribs.

Step 3

Cook on high for 2 hours, reduce heat to low and cook for about 3 hours, until the meat is tender. Serve over mashed potatoes, rice or noodles with veggies on the side.

Love the easy of this recipe. They came out very very tender. I cooked on low for 7 hours and they turned out fall apart tender. Perfect time. But I know that everyone's crock pot is different. I served over mashed garlic spuds with a little Asiago cheese. My only negative, is there wasn't enough spice. I need to add some Italian seasoning, or red pepper flakes, and maybe some fresh herbs at the end. I lacked something - FOR my pallet. Although, I like things seasoned well. My friend loved him, but even mentioned he wanted some herbs. However, the recipe was delicious; and I will make again. I will just add a few more herbs is all. It's easy and it comes out fantastic. And remember, personal preference, I like more seasoning, some may not; so this may be perfect for some. It is a fantastic must try easy full proof recipe.

The aroma of these ribs cooking was so wonderful! I had made a spicy sauce for these with some Merlot. And it just the right comfort food for this cold day. I used ribs with the bones and took then off before serving with rice and steamed broccoli. They were fall off the bone tender. Will definately be making your yummy recipe again! Thank you for sharing.
