Step by Step Method

Step 1

Mix the first three ingredients together in a sauce pan.

Step 2

Cook over Medium heat until thick (like a paste) stirring constantly.

Step 3

Remove from heat and cool completely.

Step 4

Cream sugar, shortening (margarine) and vanilla.

Step 5

Add cooled flour/milk mixture by the spoonful beating after each spoonful.

Step 6

Frost Cake.

Step 7

Note: You need to cook the milk/flour mixture for at least 30+ minutes to get to the right consistency...once it cools it's like a paste...

It is of my opinion that this recipe is a GREAT find! It's very easy to put together and the final texture is like whipped cream accept that it is more sturdy and will not liquify as easily. The only suggestion I would make and will use next time is that I will use butter instead of margarine. I found that I could taste the off-taste of the margarine (used Land O'Lake, by the way), therefore I added a bit of butter extract to diverge the taste. Otherwise, it is perfect and a frosting I will make many times. Thank you TeresaS for sharing such a wonderful recipe.
