"Get out of the French toast hum-drums with this kicked up version. It helps if the bread is at least a day old. TIME DOESN'T INCLUDE CHILING TIME OF 8 HOURS. If serving for breakfast, you can put it together right before going to bed and pop it in the fridge. That makes Saturday morning French toast really easy!"

  • For best results, use a French bread loaf that is at least a day old.
  • For a richer flavor, use pure maple syrup instead of a maple-flavored syrup.

  • Substitute coconut sugar for brown sugar: Coconut sugar has a lower glycemic index than brown sugar, so it is a better choice for those looking to manage their blood sugar levels. Plus, it has a rich caramel-like flavor that pairs well with the pecans in this recipe.
  • Substitute almond milk for 2% milk: Almond milk is a great choice for those avoiding dairy, and it also has a mild nutty flavor that complements the pecans in this dish. Plus, it's lower in calories than 2% milk.

Cinnamon-Raisin French Toast Replace the chopped pecans with 1/2 cup of raisins. Increase the cinnamon to 1 1/2 teaspoons. Add 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg to the egg mixture.

Fresh Fruit Salad: Fresh fruit salad is the perfect accompaniment to this delicious French toast. The sweetness of the fruit will complement the richness of the French toast and the crunch of the pecans. This is a great way to get some extra nutrition in your breakfast and make it a bit more balanced.

Vanilla Yogurt Parfait: Vanilla yogurt parfait is a great way to add a creamy, tangy element to the French toast. The yogurt will add a nice contrast to the sweetness of the French toast, and the crunch of the granola or nuts will provide a nice texture. This is an easy and healthy addition to any breakfast.

The minute I read the name of this I knew I would love it and that is very true. It is not like any french toast I have ever had. It is like a fancy dessert. Delicious and loved by both of us. Super easy and quick to make except for putting in the refrigerator overnight.

This is perhaps the very best French Toast recipe I've ever made. If we could assign more than 5 stars, this is one recipe that would surely get more. Yum! The recipe title pretty much describes it fairly well. It's sinfully good, with an ooey gooey syrupy pecan goodness in every bite. Heavenly! Thanks for sharing your delicious recipe, JostLori. We all thoroughly enjoyed the recipe, and we'll make it often.
