"Such a yummy loaf of bread. Easy to make and even easier to eat. Have had this recipe for a long time and was given to me by a lady I then worked with."
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Pour boiling water over dates and set aside to cool.
Cream shortening, sugar, egg, and vanilla.
Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with dates.
Beat well and add nuts.
Bake in pan ( 9 x 5 x 3) in preheated oven for 1 hour.
