Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a large frypan, brown beef in butter over medium heat; drain; stir in the onions, peppers and celery; cook and stir for about 2 minutes, until onions are transparent.

Step 2

Add water (or beef broth), Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, soy sauce, cajun seasoning and pepper sauce if desired; bring to a boil; reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender.

Step 3

Whisk together cornstarch and cold water until smooth; stir into meat mixture; bring to boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened.

Step 4

Serve over noodles or rice.

This is quite good. The gravy is really flavorful, and I loved it over roasted buckwheat. Next time I'd probably add more spice though, as I like my Cajun food very hot.

Wonderful pepper steak. We love pepper steak and we love Cajun, how could we not love this one! Served over spaghetti squash, made for a fantastic weekend meal. It is one of those recipes that will be made again ... and again.

The flavors in this recipe were amazing. I really enjoyed this, but unfortunately, had to BBQ chicken for the rest of the family as they do not like the spices. An excellent combination with french bread, Russet mashed potatoes, and ice cold water. Thanks for posting the recipe Derf!
