Step by Step Method

Mix all dry ingredients together with a whisk

Mix in butter and eggs into 1 cup buttermilk

Add that buttermilk all at once

One half cup at a time,

Stirring and kneading the dough until it soft, but not sticky.

You may not need to use the entire 2 cups of buttermilk.

Sprinkle flour over a clean surface

And roll out the dough.

Using a doughnut cutter

Cut out doughnut shapes from the dough.

Heat the vegetable oil or lard until it reaches approximately 375 degrees.

Carefully place each doughnut into the oil, frying on each side until the doughnut is a light golden color.

Sprinkle on powdered sugar or drizzle with honey.
