  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • Topping:
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey

How to Make

  • Step 1: Mix all dry ingredients together with a whisk

  • Step 2: Mix in butter and eggs into 1 cup buttermilk

  • Step 3: Then

  • Step 4: Add that buttermilk all at once

  • Step 6: One half cup at a time,

  • Step 7: Stirring and kneading the dough until it soft, but not sticky.

  • Step 8: You may not need to use the entire 2 cups of buttermilk.

  • Step 9: Sprinkle flour over a clean surface

  • Step 10: And roll out the dough.

  • Step 11: Using a doughnut cutter

  • Step 12: Cut out doughnut shapes from the dough.

  • Step 13: Heat the vegetable oil or lard until it reaches approximately 375 degrees.

  • Step 14: Carefully place each doughnut into the oil, frying on each side until the doughnut is a light golden color.

  • Step 15: Sprinkle on powdered sugar or drizzle with honey.

  • Step 16: They are also good plain.
