Step 1: Mix all dry ingredients together with a whisk
Step 2: Mix in butter and eggs into 1 cup buttermilk
Step 3: Then
Step 4: Add that buttermilk all at once
Step 5: Then
Step 6: One half cup at a time,
Step 7: Stirring and kneading the dough until it soft, but not sticky.
Step 8: You may not need to use the entire 2 cups of buttermilk.
Step 9: Sprinkle flour over a clean surface
Step 10: And roll out the dough.
Step 11: Using a doughnut cutter
Step 12: Cut out doughnut shapes from the dough.
Step 13: Heat the vegetable oil or lard until it reaches approximately 375 degrees.
Step 14: Carefully place each doughnut into the oil, frying on each side until the doughnut is a light golden color.
Step 15: Sprinkle on powdered sugar or drizzle with honey.
Step 16: They are also good plain.
