"This is a sweeter baked bean recipe, you could reduce the sugar amount on the top to 1/2 cup, I prefer it using the amount stated, 1 teaspoon liquid smoke is a great addition"

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F, then grease a small casserole dish.

Step 2

In a medium skillet skillet cook the bacon until crisp; remove to a bowl leave fat in the skillet.

Step 3

Add in onion and cook until softened (about 10 minutes, adding in a little butter or oil if needed)then add in garlic; cook for 2 minutes.

Step 4

In a bowl combine the baked beans with Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, mustard, onion/garlic mixture and 1/4 cup of brown sugar, then stir in 2/3 of the cooked bacon . Season with salt and pepper.

Step 5

Sprinkle the top of the bean mixture with the remaining bacon then sprinkle with the remaining 3/4 cup of brown sugar.

Step 6

Bake in the preheated oven until hot and bubbly (about 45 minutes, don't overbake or the mixture will get very thick).
