"This is one of my husband’s favourite meals, he says this is "Pure Comfort Food". It is quick and easy to put together and with ingredients most people usually have on hand. If gluten intolerant make sure you use GF beef bouillon granules and sub rice flour for the all-purpose flour."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Mix together the beef, minced onion, beef bouillon granules, flour, egg, garlic, oregano and pepper and form into 4 patties about 1" thick.

Step 2

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat, add patties and cook until you have nice golden brown crust on both sides about 5 minutes per side; remove patties from skillet and set aside.

Step 3

Prepare gravy by adding the mushrooms and garlic to skillet and cook while scrapping up the browned bits until mushrooms start to soften and sweat, about 5 minutes.

Step 4

In a large measuring cup, whisk the remaining gravy ingredients together, return the patties to skillet. and pour in the beef stock mixture and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 15 stirring every so often so it doesn’t bubble over. (The sauce may have a frothy texture at first but that will disappear while simmering).

Step 5

Remove bay leaf and serve.

This delicious dish was a huge hit with my family. It goes together quickly, with ingredients that I usually have on hand. I made as written, except I used garlic infused olive oil instead of the vegetable oil. Also, I doubled the gravy ingredients to make sure that I had enough to put over the mashed potatoes that I served with the hamburger patties. Yum!! Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe...it is definitely a keeper!

10 stars! Pure comfort food and a blustery, cold night. Loved the gravy. Served with mashed potatoes and buttered carrots. Made while recipe for just me, but froze a couple of portions for later.

These were awesome...I use small mushrooms and just cut them in half...for the beef stock I used beef consomme'...we really enjoyed this dish...made for "Best of 2022" per pelysma's recommendation...

Great comfort food. I halved the recipe and needed to use some bread crumbs to help bind the egg in the mixture because it was so loose. It worked fine. I sliced the mushrooms and really enjoyed the flavorful gravy. Thanks for sharing, Bea.

This was a delicious dinner for us. My DH thought we should have cut down the bouillon a little bit. We loved the mushroom gravy. We left some of the mushrooms in slices and sliced up completely the rest.
