Step by Step Method
FOR THE FIRST LAYER
Step 1
Beat sugar and shortenig until creamy; add egg; mix. Stir in milk.
Step 2
Sift flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves twice. Add to milk mixture.
Step 3
Spread 1/2 batter into a greased floured 9 inch pan.
Step 4
Sprinkle with 2nd layer.
Step 5
Cover with remaining batter.
Step 6
Scatter 3rd layer.
Step 7
Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 35 to 45 minutes or until cake tester comes out clean.
