"This apple crisp recipe was given to my husband from an elderly woman when we were first married. DH did a job for the elderly couple that he knew they couldn’t pay for. While he was there working, she offered him a plate of apple crisp that she just took out of the oven. DH said it was the best apple crisp he had ever eaten. He was given the best payment he could have ever received…..the recipe. I make at least 2 apple crisps every year for DH. He likes his crisp warm, with a scoop of ice cream. It is good cold, but is the BEST when it is warm. I have used several different kinds of apples making this recipe, which are all good but, I think Gala makes the best apple crisp. Gala apples do not cook up too juicy or get too soft and soggy. It is just right! :)"
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Butter an 8x8 inch baking dish.
Peel and slice apples into the baking dish.
In a medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder and cinnamon.
Add the beaten egg into the dry ingredients and mix with a fork to make a crumbly mixture.
Sprinkle mixture evenly over the apples.
Melt the butter in a small bowl in the microwave and pour all over the top of the crumbly mixture.
Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until top is golden brown.
Serve warm.
