"This is so yummy, it's a perfect Autumn treat! The original recipe listed 2 cups of sugar, I cut the sugar down to 1 1/2 cup because the topping is very sweet and I used 6 Granny Smith apples"

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Step 2
For the apple cake; n a large bowl, cream the butter with the granulated sugar and vanilla. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Step 3
In a small bowl, combine the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and baking soda; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well (batter will be stiff). Stir in apples until well combined.
Step 4
Spread into a greased 13x9-in. baking dish.
Step 5
Bake at 40-45 minutes or until top is lightly browned and springs back when lightly touched. Cool for 30 minutes before serving.
Step 6
For the caramel sauce; Meanwhile in a small saucepan combine brown sugar and butter. Cook over medium heat until butter is melted. Gradually add cream. Bring to a slow boil over medium heat, stirring constantly, then continue to simmer on low for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat. Serve with cake
