"This recipe was given to me by a co-worker back in the 70's. This recipe is for someone with a sweet tooth. Serving sizes depends on what size of pan you choose and the size of bars you cut."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, add the 6 cups of cereal; set aside.

Step 2

In a saucepot, add the sugar and karo syrup; bring to a boil. Turn heat to low after mixture reaches a boil. This is important. Bars will be hard as concrete if mixture continues to boil.

Step 3

Add the peanut butter to the sugar mixture. Stir until smooth and combined.

Step 4

Pour peanut butter mixture over the bowl of cereal and mix well.

Step 5

Add the mixture into a lightly buttered 13X9 inch pan, or a 9x9 pan for thicker bars. Pat the mixture into the pan.

Step 6

Topping:

Step 7

In a medium bowl, combine the chocolate and butterscotch chips. Microwave for about 2 minutes or until melted; stirring once or twice during melting.

Step 8

Pour and spread topping over top of cereal mixture. Refrigerate just long enough to set the chips. Remove, and cut into bars.
