"1960s cookbook recipes on parade great series old recipe probably used lard or butter before shortening. Because of the shortening these are really crisp .these waffles need to cook a little longer,I think old waffle irons were hotter"

Step 1

Sift flour and measure (I'm not sure why they are doing this but included anyway)

Step 2

Sift dry ingredients together 3 times

Step 3

Separate eggs into 2 bowls

Step 4

Whip the whites stiff enough to stand in peaks, Set aside

Step 5

Add shortening to egg yolks

Step 6

Beat, add milk, Beat

Step 7

Pour into dry ingredients and beat with a rotary beater until smooth (see told you it was old)

Step 8

Fold in the egg whites gently

Step 9

Bake on hot waffle iron (pam sprayed) using 1/2 cup batter each

Step 10

On special days Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of chopped nuts on top of batter
