  • When choosing the butter, be sure to select a high-quality variety for the best flavor.
  • For the buttermilk, use a store-bought variety or make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of vinegar to 1 cup of regular milk.

  • Substitute almond milk for buttermilk: Almond milk is a great dairy-free alternative to buttermilk that still provides a delicious flavor and texture to the waffles. It is also a healthier option as it is lower in saturated fat and cholesterol.
  • Substitute coconut oil for butter: Coconut oil is a great vegan alternative to butter that still provides a delicious flavor and texture to the waffles. It is also a healthier option as it is high in healthy fats and antioxidants.

Oat Flour Waffles Substitute 2 cups of oat flour for the all-purpose flour and follow the same instructions.

Bacon and Egg Breakfast Casserole - This classic breakfast casserole is a great accompaniment to Sour Milk Waffles. The salty bacon and creamy eggs are a perfect combination of flavors that will complement the heavy waffles perfectly.

Buttermilk Pancakes - Buttermilk pancakes are light and fluffy, and the perfect complement to the savory Bacon and Egg Breakfast Casserole. The sweetness of the pancakes will balance out the saltiness of the bacon, and the creamy eggs will add a nice texture to the pancakes.

FAQ

Q: How much vinegar should I add to the buttermilk?

A: Start by adding 1 teaspoon of vinegar to the buttermilk. If you find that is too much, you can reduce the amount for your desired taste.

Q: How long should I let the buttermilk sit?

A: Let the buttermilk sit for at least 10 minutes before using it. This will allow the vinegar to fully react with the buttermilk and give it a tangy flavor.
