Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2
In a mixing bowl add the dried ingredients, sifting the flour, soda, spices, and salt.
Step 3
In a second mixing bowl, cream shortening and 1 cup of sugar until fluffy.
Step 4
Add the molasses and egg.
Step 5
Beat the mixture for one minute.
Step 6
Add the (dried) flour mixture and mix low speed until combined.
Step 7
Shape the dough into 1 1/2 inch balls then roll in a small plate with garnish sugar.
Step 8
Arrange the balls of dough 3 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet or a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
Step 9
Bake at 350ºF oven for 15 minutes or until light brown on bottom.
