  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 egg, beaten

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  • Step 2: In a mixing bowl add the dried ingredients, sifting the flour, soda, spices, and salt.

  • Step 3: In a second mixing bowl, cream shortening and 1 cup of sugar until fluffy.

  • Step 4: Add the molasses and egg.

  • Step 5: Beat the mixture for one minute.

  • Step 6: Add the (dried) flour mixture and mix low speed until combined.

  • Step 7: Shape the dough into 1 1/2 inch balls then roll in a small plate with garnish sugar.

  • Step 8: Arrange the balls of dough 3 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet or a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

  • Step 9: Bake at 350ºF oven for 15 minutes or until light brown on bottom.
