Step by Step Method

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium/medium low heat. Add butter and melt.

Step 2

Add sliced onion and cook for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown and caramelized.

Step 3

In the last minute or two, deglaze the pan with white wine. Cook until the wine is absorbed; set aside.

Step 4

Preheat your grill to high heat.

Step 5

Cook hot dogs until warmed through.

Step 6

Toast buns until golden brown (this won't take long).

Step 7

Place jalapenos on the grill and cook for about 8 minutes, turning every few minutes. Remove from heat and cut into 1/4 inch slices.

Step 8

Take one toasted bun and smear on cream cheese.

Step 9

Place hot dog in the bun and top with caramelized onions, jalapeños, bacon, and other preferred toppings, as desired.

Step 10

Repeat with remaining dogs.

These were fantastic! My homemade gluten-free buns weren't flexible, so this was no finger food... I halved the buns and then topped each half with half of the sausage and the toppings. Instead of real Jalapenos, which I could only find pickled, I used grill peppers small green peppers for grilling. I "grilled" everything in a grill pan on the stove, and it tasted marvellous! Thanks for sharing!

I followed Linky's lead and used a poblano that was languishing in the veggie bin and some leftover bacon. This was a delicious little lunch treat, I would never have imagined using cream cheese on a hot dog! This made for a slippery little dog, but was worth it! Thanks for sharing, Mike!

What a super dog! I had poblano rather than jalapeño, so just added them to the onions. We had some red lager brats to use instead of regular dogs, and they were hugely delicious!
