Step by Step Method
Step 1
In a large saucepan, bring 1/2 inch water to a boil over high heat. Add the onions. Lower the heat and simmer, covered, for 10 minutes or until tender. Drain.
Step 2
Meanwhile, in a 10-inch skillet, melt the butter over moderate heat. Stir in the sugar, ginger, black pepper, and salt, until sugar is dissolved.
Step 3
Add onions. Cook, uncovered, for 2 - 3 minutes or until onions are glazed and most of the liquid has evaporated, stirring frequently.
