"Found @ portuguesedinerdotcom/ (aka Tia Maria's Blog for the Portuguese Foodie). Maria Dias & her daughter (Lisa Dias) are co-authors of TASTE PORTUGAL, 101 EASY PORTUGUESE RECIPES (Volume 1). Accompanying this recipe was the following statement: "The use of the word SANGRIA is now restricted under European law. Only sangria made in Spain & Portugal will be allowed to be sold under that name after the European Parliament green-lighted new wine labeling in January 2014." Sounds like they are pretty serious about their sangria, so this is probably THE REAL DEAL. It should be w/1 Lt of red wine plus 1/2 cup Brandy. ENJOY!"

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Place the ice in a lrg pitcher (or 2 as needed). Add the wine plus the remaining ingredients. Stir well & chill in the fridge for a few hrs to intensify the flavors.
Step 2
TO SERVE: Decorate glasses w/a slice of orange & a strawberry (optional). Add ice & serve cold.
NOTE #1 - SUMOL is a Portuguese product that was "born" in 1954, "a 1 of a kind beverage made from orange juice w/no artificial colors or preservatives, lightly carbonated & w/real fruit pulp! Presented in a distinctive green bottle w/an etched design, the packaging is key to protect SUMOL from heat & sunlight. With SUMOL a refreshing whirlwind of taste & the smell of real fruit invades the Portuguese summer beverages."
NOTE #2 - Brandy 1920 is the name of a Portuguese Brandy made & distributed by Carvalho Ribeiro & Ferreira
NOTE RE YIELD: Based on 5 oz servings per person = 14 total servings
NOTE FROM ME: Altho clearly a part of the recipe, I see no reason to add the ice just so it can melt & likely ruin the sangria IMO. I'd wait until the sangria was well-chilled & then pour it over ice in the glasses.
