Step by Step Method
Step 1
Place sugar and water in a heavy 3- to 4-quart saucepan.
Step 2
Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
Step 3
Insert 4 cloves in a ring around the top of each apple.
Step 4
Place apples side by side in the pan and baste with the syrup.
Step 5
Cover and reduce heat to low.
Step 6
Simmer, basting occasionally, 15 minutes, or until apples are tender.
Step 7
Let cool in syrup.
Step 8
Serve in individual dishes.
Step 9
Pile whipped cream in the center of each apple.
Step 10
Top with a tablespoon of the syrup.
