Step by Step Method

Step 1

Place the pork and onions in a 6 quart stock pot. Add enough water just to cover.

Step 2

Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 3

Place on high heat and bring to a boil.

Step 4

Cover, reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until pork is very tender, about 1 hour.

Step 5

Remove pork from pot.

Step 6

Skim fat off.

Step 7

When cool enough to handle, take the meat off the bones and cut into small pieces.

Step 8

Reserve for later.

Step 9

Add the turnips and carrots to the broth.

Step 10

Add more salt and pepper to taste.

Step 11

Bring back to a boil, then reduce heat, cover and simmer until turnips are tender, about 30 minutes.

Step 12

Add the reserved pork and cook another 5 minutes. Taste for seasoning.

The pork smells so good while it is cooking. The flavor of each ingredient is allowed to shine through. I had 2 servings, something I rarely do. Great soup! Made for FYC tag game.
