Step by Step Method

Step 1

Sauté onions until golden in 2 tablespoons butter until translucent and lightly golden. Remove from the pan.

Step 2

Form the meat patty so it will fit the bread. Grill to desired doneness.

Step 3

Butter bread on one side; put buttered side down on hot griddle, put 1 slice cheese followed by onions then cooked patty, followed by cheese.

Step 4

Butter one side of the other slice of bread and place on top buttered side out. Fry until bread is crisp but not burned (I have trouble with this part), turn over and do the same thing on the other side. Cheese should be well melted.

Step 5

Slice on the diagonal.

Great sandwich. I made one change-used ground turkey instead of beef.

I made 4 of these for dinner, of course increasing all the amounts, I only had American cheese slices and had to make it on an indoor grill, I so love this idea it's a wonderful change from regular burgers in fact we enjoyed this even more that burgers. Thank you dienia b!
