Step by Step Method

Step 1

In saucepan, combine pineapple and sugar, bring to a boil, stirring occassionally.

Step 2

When mixture boils, immediately add gelatin and stir until dissolved. Remove from heat and cool slightly.

Step 3

Stir in buttermilk. Chill until partially set, about an hour.

Step 4

Fold in whipped topping, and nuts if desired.

Step 5

If necessary, chill until mixture mounds slightly. Then pour into a lightly oiled 8 1/2 cup mold and chill overnight.
