Step by Step Method

Step 1

Whisk flour before measuring, soften margarine in the microwave. Place dough ingredients in bread maker pan in order listed. Set on Dough setting. Press start

Step 2

During the first mixing check to assure your dough has the right amount of flour and water - dough should look nice and shiny. Flours differ so you may need to add lukewarm water a teaspoon at a time if it is too dry - a sprinkling of flour if too sticky. Never add more then 3 tablespoons of either the flour or the water. In my breadmaker the whisked flour and the carefully measured ingredients are right on

Step 3

In small bowl melt butter in microwave, in a second bowl mix sugar and cinnamon; set aside. (I pour boiling water over raisins and leave for 5 minutes - drain, blot dry on paper towel)

Step 4

When bread cycle complete, remove dough punch down. Divide into equal pieces about the size of a walnut, roll each piece into a smooth ball

Step 5

Roll each ball in melted butter then in cinnamon-sugar mix. Place in greased bundt pan, repeat layers, sprinkle raisins between layers

Step 6

Mix remaining butter and sugar together, pour over top. Cover, let rise in a warm draft free place, 30 to 45 minutes

Step 7

Bake at 350 for about 40 - 45 minutes or until nicely browned and done (ovens vary)

Step 8

Cool in pan for 5 minutes on a wire rack. Invert on serving plate after the five minute cool.

Step 9

Enjoy

Great bread that is fun to make! I really liked the short cut using the bread maker too. I used the full amount of cinnamon and raisins but otherwise used the suggested amounts. Half of my flour was whole wheat and no one noticed! Thanks for sharing!

Despite a slight disaster or two - I managed to pull off this great tasting monkey bread. I completely missed adding the water to the egg - it was a huge miss. Since I couldn't get the dough the right consistency in time for the rising session in the abm, I ended up taking it out and using my mixer to get the dough the right consistency 1T of water at a time. Once it had risen, put it in the oven... and wouldn't you know that the power went out without my realizing it - ahhh. Well, turned the oven back on and just watched (timer went out too of course) until the bread looked deep golden, was surprised and thankful for the wonderful taste once it had cooled. Whew!!
