Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to broil.
Step 2
In a cast iron skillet over medium heat melt 1 tablespoon butter. Add next 5 ingredients (-pepper) to pan and cook stirring occasionally for 5 minutes or until tender. Transfer to a bowl and wipe out skillet.
Step 3
Spread one side of all the bread slices with mustard and then divided the apple mixture between 2 bread slices and top each with half the ham and 2 slices of cheese and top with the rest of the bread slices (mustard side down)making 2 sandwiches.
Step 4
Over medium heat heat the skillet and melt 2 tablespoons of butter and then add the sandwiches. Cook until toasted (only a few minutes) per side. Remove from heat and top sandwiches with remaining cheese. Broil until cheese melts (under 5 minutes).
