Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 1 apple (such as Granny Smith or your favorite tart apple), sliced
  • 1 cup sliced onion
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 150 grams bread, sliced (1 inch thick, 4 slices, country or your favorite bread
  • 4 teaspoons honey mustard
  • 8 ounces honey ham (sliced, this is about 8 slices of ham)
  • 4 ounces fontina cheese (divided, this is about 8 slices of cheese)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to broil.

  • Step 2: In a cast iron skillet over medium heat melt 1 tablespoon butter. Add next 5 ingredients (-pepper) to pan and cook stirring occasionally for 5 minutes or until tender. Transfer to a bowl and wipe out skillet.

  • Step 3: Spread one side of all the bread slices with mustard and then divided the apple mixture between 2 bread slices and top each with half the ham and 2 slices of cheese and top with the rest of the bread slices (mustard side down)making 2 sandwiches.

  • Step 4: Over medium heat heat the skillet and melt 2 tablespoons of butter and then add the sandwiches. Cook until toasted (only a few minutes) per side. Remove from heat and top sandwiches with remaining cheese. Broil until cheese melts (under 5 minutes).
