Grilled Turkey, Cheddar and Chutney Sandwich

"This is such a fantastic sandwich. Now, I make turkey year round, so I always have some in the freezer; but roast chicken works just as well. This sandwich because of the apple chutney, just 'screams' Fall and Winter to me. My 'Easy Apple Chutney' posted on Zazz, is not only good on this sandwich; but, it is great on roast/grilled chicken or pork, and fantastic as a condiment/sauce on a cheese plate - so don't worry if you have extra chutney. You could cut the chutney recipe in half, but it lasts for 2 weeks in the refrigerator."

Step 1

Chutney Base ... Add the oil to a sauce pan and bring to medium heat. Add the onion, and all the dried spices, and saute 5 minutes until the onion is tender. Make sure not to brown the onions.

Step 2

Add the apples, cranberries, orange zest, ginger, brown sugar, and vinegar; cook 15-20 minutes until the apples and cranberries begin to break down, but still retain a bit of texture - stirring often.

Step 3

Remove the cloves and then you can either serve warm; or, you can refrigerate for later use. At that time, you can either served chilled or reheat the chutney if you prefer.

Step 4

Sandwich ... Add a slice of cheese to the bottom bread slice, then the turkey or chicken, chutney, walnuts, another slice of cheese; and the bread slice. And, don't forget to butter the top slice.

Step 5

Grill ... I prefer a grill pan, but a saute pan will work well. Bring to medium heat and add the sandwich, buttered side down. Then immediately butter the top bread slice. Cook on medium heat, slowly so it doesn't burn, and it gives the cheese and the chicken time to melt and heat up. Each side will take a good 5-8 minutes.

Serve and ENJOY!

I made just the apple chutney and served it with leftover turkey, I think this may just replace the boring cranberry sauce that's the usuaal side to turkey, there's very few recipes that I love enough to make on a regular basis but this is one of them, I won't wait to serve this with turkey this would go with just about anything, Kchurchill than you for your wonderful recipe
