"A fun way to serve fruit salad at a BBQ, picnic, potluck or party. I had quite a bit of leftover fruit that didn't fit into the pineapple bowl, so I served it on the side and when the pineapple bowl emptied out, I refilled it. You can add a touch of lime juice, if you're worried about the fruit browning. I cut mine close to when I served it, so I didn't have that problem. I was going to a party with a lot of kids, so I didn't add any sort of dressing to this salad, just the mixed fruit. It was all ripe, so it was sweet enough. You can substitute with any fruit you like--I used what was on sale and would be colorful."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Stand pineapple upright, place your knife on one side of the stem, and slice down (vertically cut about a third from 1 side, leaving the top attached). Remove fruit and discard outer peel from the smaller section. Remove fruit from the large section, leaving a 1/2-inch shell to keep as your pineapple fruit bowl.

Step 2

Add the pineapple chunks, cantaloupe and strawberries to a bowl and mix well. Add to hollowed out pineapple bowl.

Step 3

Add the blueberries to the top of the fruit salad. (You can mix your berries in with your other fruit if you prefer, but I put them on top so they didn't get mashed or bruised by the heavier fruit.)

Step 4

Refrigerate until you serve!
