"Jenkins recalled the time Elvis phoned her at Graceland requesting "kraut-and-wiener sandwiches." She reminded him of his strict hospital diet but he said, "Mary, I got to have some of those sandwiches." Then he told her exactly how to make them: "Boil the kraut and wieners together. Take the wieners out, put them on a hot dog bun, and pile the kraut on top. Then fill them full of mustard"

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Rinse sauerkraut and drain.

Step 2

Add pepper, salt, and shortening. bacon grease or chicken bouillon with water works well here

Step 3

Let cook in skillet for about 45 minutes on medium heat. (now this is just crazy time,way to long)Boil the hot dogs,(I cook them in the kraut) and heat the buns. Place the hot dogs on buns. Pile sauerkraut on top of hot dog

Step 4

Them top with mustard

I made this for the hubby and he said it was really good...but where was the ketchup and chopped onions and why was the sauerkraut hot...this was just a bit different from his normal way of having a hot dog...I cut the recipe down to 2 servings...and he ate them both ...made for FYC tag game...thanks for sharing your recipe...
