  • When selecting a beer, choose a light colored beer such as Corona, or a light lager.
  • When making the citrus salt, use freshly grated lemon or lime zest for the best flavor.

  • Substitute tequila with white rum: The benefit of this substitution is that it provides a slightly different flavor profile that is still light and refreshing, while still providing the same level of alcohol content. The thinking behind this substitution is that the sweetness of the rum will complement the citrusy notes of the lemon and lime juice.
  • Substitute Corona with a wheat beer: The benefit of this substitution is that it provides a slightly more complex flavor that is still light and refreshing. The thinking behind this substitution is that the wheat beer will add a slight nutty flavor that will pair nicely with the citrusy notes of the lemon and lime juice.

Tequila Sunrise El Chonie Replace the beer with 2 ounces of orange juice and 1/2 ounce of grenadine syrup. Rim the highball glass with sugar instead of salt. Shake the tequila, simple syrup, lemon juice, lime juice, and orange juice together with ice and strain into the chilled glass. Top up slowly with the grenadine syrup, leaving a little foam on top. Serve immediately.

Grilled Fish Tacos with Avocado Salsa. This dish is the perfect accompaniment to El Chonie, as the light and fresh flavors of the fish tacos will complement the citrusy and salty flavors of the drink. The avocado salsa adds a creamy texture and a nice balance to the flavor of the drink.

Chipotle Chicken Enchiladas: These flavorful enchiladas are the perfect way to round out the meal. The smoky and spicy flavors of the chipotle chicken will complement the citrusy and salty flavors of El Chonie, while the creamy enchilada sauce adds a nice balance to the dish. The combination of flavors will be sure to please any palate.
